Sanna’s research focuses on marriage practices and their regulation in Finland and more broadly in the Nordic context. Her on-going research examines how Muslim marriages are concluded in Finland and how they are regulated at different sites of state policies. Together with Mulki Al-Sharmani, Imams and personnel in Finnish mosques as well as individuals who have concluded different types of marriages have been interviewed at length. In addition, they have interviewed staff in various state institutions and collected data sets comprising of cases from local registration offices and district courts.
